Tammy Abraham scored a as Chelsea beat Wolves 5-2 on Saturday, together with Fikayo Tomori also netting his first senior goal.
It was defender Tomori (31) who got the scoring under way with a breathtaking long-range curler before Abraham (34, 41) added 2 more from the first half.
The 21-year-old scored another two as well, completing his hat-trick in the 54th minute prior to committing Wolves a lifeline with the unfortunate own-goal (69). Patrick Cutrone added another for the hosts five minutes to play, however Mason Mount (90+6) was the final word as he slotted home together with the final kick of the game.
This was the second Premier League win of the year for Frank Lampard – sending Chelsea to sixth with eight points – while Wolves remain winless in the league before the Europa League group stage opener on Thursday.
The opening half an hour was a muted affair, and there wasn’t a shot on goal until the sensational opener in the 31st minute of Tomori.
Following a corner regular from Chelsea, that the defender was located by Jonny’s tried clearance near the peak of the area, plus a fantastic, curling effort was pinged by him into the far corner.
Three minutes later, also Abraham doubled the lead. As he’d fed Mount within the area, with the latter going down following contact from Conor 22, tomori was included . The ball fell to Abraham that took a touch before hitting house while players and the crowd called to get a penalty.
The nabbed another double – his third in games – in the 41st minute as he continues to unwind in the Premier League.
Before spotting Abraham at the middle, a Jesus Vallejo clearance collected in the top right corner. Since the ball was sent, the striker nipped to go Chelsea’s third.
It took two minutes of the half to Abraham to complete his hat-trick. A floated pass gathered from Jorginho under pressure from Coady, before rushing on the ball and tricking his way beyond the Wolves captain. After that, it turned out to be a finish into the far corner because Chelsea made it four.
Abraham was included all over the pitch and handed Wolves a way back in the match with a 69th minute own-goal. Romain Saiss headed a Joao Moutinho corner to the net, which divides Abraham’s arm . The ball slipped through the hands of Kepa Arrizabalaga as Chelsea’s possibility of a clean sheet this year came to an end.
It was a grandstand finish when Wolves inserted a second in the 85th minute. This was a deserved goal after arriving on at half-time for Cutrone, who awakened, after the shot of Matt Doherty had been initially saved by Arrizabalaga, because he fired a home at close range.
But it wasn’t sufficient to propel a comeback since the victory was secured by Chelsea with the last kick of the game. It was a no-look pass from Michy Batshuyai that picked Mount outside down the left, with the 10-year-old setting himself up nicely before curling a shot around Vallejo and into the back of the net.
Who else? He scored four goals – three to get the team – and could’ve additional for Chelsea as the match went on. His positioning and finishing inside the area has been top class and he’s going a long way to demonstrating that he could be the man for Chelsea through their transfer ban.
He made a couple clearances to prevent anglers from scoring, even picking up a yellow card for a foul and contributed at the back too. Fortunately, it wasn’t completely harmful to the result, although his own purpose was unlucky and there wasn’t too much he might have done .
Abraham is a man filled with confidence at the moment that’s wonderful for Chelsea, Frank Lampard and England. Surely Gareth Southgate can’t ignore him if the October internationals come about.
Both teams obtain their European campaigns under way this past week. Wolves host Braga within their initial Europa League team match on Thursday (8pm kick-off) before travelling to Crystal Palace following Sunday in the Premier League.
Chelsea will also be at home in their Champions League opener against Valencia (8pm kick-off) on Tuesday before luring Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday 22 September, live on Sky Sports (4.30pm kick-off).
