Charles Leclerc has admitted that the Italian GP and the parties that followed exceeded his childhood dreams all, together with all Ferrari’s new hero hailed as a’national treasure’ after his stunning success.
Leclerc was roared on throughout his epic drive at Ferrari’s home race and, even after a massive exhale of emotion upon the chequered flag, that the 21-year-old was greeted by a sea of red and the famous Tifosi as he stepped onto the podium since the Scuderia’s initial Monza race-winner as 2010.
Leclerc, a brand new Ferrari fan from the age of five, grew up dreaming about races in reddish – but nothing really prepared him for it.
“It has gone beyond all of the dreams I’d had as a child,” said Leclerc. “To see all the people for a single group, singing completely – it’s wonderful.
“I’ve never been on a podium with so many people beneath it and to realize that the whole straight was filled with folks – 99 percent red – it was good to see. Hearing them singing… there was only a lot of emotions.”
Leclerc has been heralded after his Monza masterclass, together with the child withstanding a Mercedes barrage as Lewis Hamilton, after which Valtteri Bottas, threw everything to acquire past.
Even Mercedes boss Toto Wolff insisted:”Ferrari have an impending good.”
Leclerc admitted his defence against Hamilton had been”very on the limitation”, but also that he’d do anything to not let this chance pass. There is in addition to the podium in front of this Tifosi A Ferrari driver one of the excellent scenes of F1, and Leclerc understandably found it challenging to stay concentrated in the final stages of this race.
“On the last two laps I started to find in the grandstand that there was really a lot of agitation, that each one of the fans were jumping,” he said.
“So yeah, I was telling myself’stop taking a look at the grandstand, look at the trail, focus on what it is you are doing as a driver and then you can enjoy whatever there is outside.’
“But it was rather tough to stay concentrated on driving, watching how much motion there was in the grandstand.”
Leclerc added to Sky F1:”It is the very first time in my career that I actually examine the grandstand when forcing, which is normally not so great but I just had no choice.
“They were just jumping and cheering all race long, it was wonderful to see. Merely to triumph here feels very, very special.”
Leclerc’s Ferrari success didn’t only earn praise from fans, drivers and team bosses – but also from Italy’s papers on Monday.
He was heralded by la Gazzetta dello Sport as a’national treasure’.
Corriere dello Sport crowned’king’ Leclerc, while claiming the age had begun.
Leclerc became the second-youngest driver in Ferrari’s background when he combined this year after a dazzling rookie season in F1 and stated wins like Monza revealed he had been”more prepared than some people believed”.
“It has been an easy start to the summer, there’s been a few mistakes,” he told reporters on Sunday night. “However, I think I have grown.
“I knew that the critics of this past yearI being too young. Season in Formula 1 and in Ferrari was ancient, for sure.
“I thank Ferrari for believing me. I’m quite happy to have these kind of results to demonstrate that I was maybe more ready than some people believed.
