Davide Zappacosta suffered a knee injury with Roma in a practice session on Friday which could bring a premature end to his loan move from Chelsea, based on Sky from Italy.
The 27-year-old joined the Serie A club in the summer with an option to extend the agreement before the conclusion of the season.
Roma dread that the full-back suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage, in which case the injury would likely make him sit out the remainder of his contract from Italy.
Zappacosta had suffered a calf injury at the warm-up against Lazio in September that kept him sidelined for a month into the derby clash of Roma.
He has made only 1 appearance for Roma on the day of the season as a substitute in the draw with Genoa.
