Lewis Hamilton suspects Mercedes are likely to find it”difficult to overcome” rejuvenated Ferrari at F1’s upcoming races – but has backed the entire world champions to climb to the revived challenge.
Against all pre-weekend expectations in Singapore, to get a course that needs high downforce – a 2019 Ferrari weakness – that the Scuderia completed second and first in the race to expand their winning run of Sunday – their sequence for 11 decades.

Consequently, Mercedes have suffered three successive defeats for only the second time in the past six seasons.
And together with Ferrari apparently having found a breakthrough with their car on tracks that do not simply require horsepower – the SF90 strength – Hamilton is expecting a fight that is more constant.
“I am a realist, therefore I see the situation we’re in and they’ve just come up with some type of upgrade that is possibly put their car… maybe they have had a good car all year and it just was not functioning in the ideal window,” said Hamilton on Sunday night.
“Who knows, because it’s unlikely they’ve brought a gigantic, massive update that has brought 20-30 points [of [ downforce] to some thing that performance-wise is probably what you’d expect they have taken here.
“But obviously their car works extremely well everywhere now so it’s going to be somewhat tough to beat them, particularly as they’re so quick on the straights. We can’t compete together on the straights right now.”
Mercedes must’pull up our socks’
Despite Ferrari streak, Hamilton and Mercedes’ constant kind prior to the August summer break implies that they remain on course.
While Ferrari’s guide writer, Leclerc, is 96 points adrift with 156 points to play for over the final six races hamilton extended his title lead into 65 points.
“We’ve won earlier with not the ideal auto but it’s how we provide over the weekend.
“At this time they’re delivering better in the operations area. Direct and I did enough in the race at the very first stint to emerge but the procedures didn’t do the job. So we’ve only got to re-huddle, get back with them, work hard and proceed forward”
The world champion added:”Of course it has got tighter and tighter as the season has gone , we work on this, but at exactly the same time we have just got to do a better job.
“We were doing such a excellent job at the beginning of the year and we’ve got this gap, but the gap can go. I am under no illusions, my gap in the tournament – it’s not won.
“We have got to pull our socks up. Together we can do. But we lose and win as a team and all of us do not feel great right now.”
