Mercedes have suffered three consecutive defeats that were race-day for the second time in the previous six seasons.
And with Ferrari now seemingly having discovered a breakthrough with their car on paths that do not require horsepower – the established strength of that the SF90 – Hamilton is anticipating a constant fight.
“I’m a realist so I see the problem we’re in and they’ve just come up with some type of upgrade that is possibly put their automobile… maybe they’ve had a fantastic car all year and it simply was not functioning in the perfect window,” explained Hamilton on Sunday night.
“Who knows, because it’s unlikely they have brought a gigantic, massive update that has brought 20-30 things [of [ downforce] to a thing that performance-wise is likely what you’d expect they’ve accepted here.
“But clearly their automobile works extremely well everywhere today so it is going to be quite tough to beat them, particularly as they are so quick on the straights. We can not compete together on the straights at the moment.”
Mercedes must’pull our socks up’
Regardless of Ferrari’s winning run, Hamilton and Mercedes’ winning type before the August summer break implies they remain on track.
Hamilton actually extended his title lead to 65 points over team-mate Valtteri Bottas, while Ferrari runner, Leclerc, will be 96 points adrift with 156 points to play for over the final six races.
“We’ve won earlier with not the very best automobile but it’s really how we provide over the weekend.
“At the moment they are providing better in the operations region. Now I did enough in the race at the first stint to emerge and direct but the whole processes did not work. So we’ve only got to re-huddle, reunite together, work and proceed forwards.”
The world champion added:”Obviously it has got tighter and tighter as the year has gone on, we operate on this, but at precisely exactly the exact identical time we’ve only got to be doing a better job.
“We were doing such a fantastic job at the start of the year plus we’ve got this difference, but the gap can certainly go. I am under no illusions, my gap in the tournament – it is not won yet.
“We’ve got to pull our socks up. We can perform. But we lose and win as a group and all of us don’t feel good right now.”
