The lack of diversity in soccer organisations is part of the issue in handling racism, says Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.
While searching for Inter Milan after Belgium compatriot Romelu Lukaku was racially abused by Cagliari lovers kompany made the stage.
Lukaku said the sport is”going backwards” in the aftermath of this abuse.
“Romelu is a casualty of something disgraceful not just in football, but in society,” said Kompany.
Talking to Sky Sports News, the Anderlecht supervisor added:”It goes back to who’s expected to make a decision on those issues, and it’s in these organisations the issues lie.
“The true racism can be found in the fact that none of these institutions have representatives that may actually understand what Romelu is moving through.
“You are working with a bunch of people and decision makers that are telling him how he must feel and think about this when you have zero decision makers that are remotely in touch with what he’s experienced in his life.
“That is the real issue, if you go through the planks in Uefa or Fifa, the Italian League or even the English League, there is a real absence of diversity.
“If you do not have diversity in regions of power like boardrooms then you can’t have the perfect decisions in terms of sanctions – it’s a simple as that.”
As he scored a penalty in a 2-1 success because of his side’s winner lukaku, who moved from Manchester United to Inter was subjected to monkey chants.
A group of Inter Milan fans assert Cagliari fans were showing Lukaku a kind of”esteem” and the abuse was gamesmanship.
The Capture: A multi-layered conspiracy that is dramatic
