Richard Agar has been called as Leeds Rhinos’ new head trainer for the 2020 season with a rolling contract, after spending as manager.
Following Leeds lost 10 of their first 14 Super League games because Dave Furner was in May agar has been in temporary charge.
The France head trainer has since directed Leeds to seven wins from their subsequent 14 league games along with the Rhinos are set to finish eighth.
Agar stated:”I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on this particular group of players and helping them turn the corner this season.
“That is an outstanding golf club both on and off the field, and it’s our responsibility over the forthcoming years to once again challenge for honours over a sustained period.”
Agar supported to Sky Sports that he held”positive” talks with club chief executive Gary Hetherington and director of rugby Kevin Sinfield after last Sunday’s win at London Broncos, which effectively secured their Super League status.
Following Agar’s appointment, Sinfield stated:”We are delighted to have the ability to affirm Richard as our new Head Coach.
“The manner in which he has conducted this year, during very hard conditions, has shown us he is the ideal person for the job.
“We’re fortunate to be able to call upon a few of the most experienced trainers in the game and importantly someone who knows our players and knows the potential for this group of young guys.”
The 47-year-old began working as the assistant of Furner when James Lowes abandoned the club rugby union in April and took on a temporary basis when the Australian was sacked.
Agar’s key objective was to prevent relegation, which has been accomplished with two matches in hand.
