It was inevitable after Donald Trump had changed the match – betting an a US Presidential Election would never be the exact same again. The fields are no more only Republican and Democrat politicians but a wide variety of personalities from popular culture and business.
At this early stage at least, actors are the candidates that bettors seem most interested in backing. With one barnstorming Golden Globes speech, Oprah Winfrey is rated Trump’s closest competition for 2020.

The response to Oprah’s speech demonstrates precisely why celebrities increasingly have the advantage. The Facebook founder’s political aspirations have long been a subject of speculation and why not? When you have achieved what Zuckerberg has at 33, future aspirations are bound to be set very high. He’s obviously got lots to offer in public life and also is going to be a prominent figure for decades. Whether he’s prepared for a political career, let alone win the presidency, at this young age is just another issue. Plus Facebook’s role at the weaponisation of fake news in recent elections is a temporary drawback.
